How to choose the right wedding dress length for you?

As a wedding dress designer who’s met many brides in their search for the perfect dress, I know how hard it can seem to make the right choice. If you’re endlessly browsing alternative wedding dresses right now, and can’t decide between a maxi gown, a sassy short dress, or a mid-century midi, I have some tips for you! Naturally, there are beautiful bridal dresses in every length, so start by ascertaining the following:

The location:
The place of your ceremony and reception should be taken into account when choosing your wedding dress length. This is particularly true for outdoor celebrations that take place on grass or sand that could soil your hemline if it drags on the ground. If you are planning an elopement wedding outdoors or a beach wedding, a shorter dress or a long dress with a slit can be more suitable.

The most flattering fit for you

I’m a firm believer that all brides are beautiful, and if you have a dream dress in mind, nothing should stand in your way. But, there are certain styling principles you should be aware of: long dresses with a flowing line elongate and make you appear slimmer. Shorter dresses complement tall torsos and long legs.

And - Don’t ignore the season: Wedding dresses are not supposed to keep you warm, but still a short dress is less suitable for a winter wedding.

Once you’ve gotten these decisions out of the way, consider these styles

Maxi Dresses

The bohemian style means forgoing long trains and constructive corsets in favor of loose-fitting fabrics that will help you feel like yourself on your special day. But for those who still want that princess-like effect, I would recommend a free-flowing dress, such as the romantic Chloe that’s long enough to cover your feet.

Another full-length option is to choose a hemline that hovers just an inch above the floor, like the one of the stunning Charlotte gown. This length works well for brides with outdoor or beach weddings or those that want a little more movability on their day, but still want to look formal.

Mid-length dresses

Midi-length gowns sometimes referred to as “Tea Dresses” have hemlines that stop anywhere from below the knee to just above the ankle. Tea-length skirts are reminiscent of swing dresses and can go well with a vintage style. If you are a relaxed bride who loves a classic & romantic style, a dreamy boho midi dress, like the chic LEE WEDDING GOWN & DORIN WEDDING DRESS is for you.

Short wedding dresses

For the trendy brides who'd like to stand out, and for those looking for something unique and stunning, a short bridal dress, like the Gabriel Gown is a great way to make a splash. This fringe design is Great Gatsby 1920’s meets Hip 2020’s. A great choice for a bride who dreams of dancing on the sand.

These three classic lengths are by no means your only option. If you’re looking for a beautiful dress to fit your singular style, consider unique designs like a-symmetrical cuts, high slits or see-through skirts that create a layered effect. Remember that the most important thing is that you feel amazing and the rest will fall into place.
